AMAA Awards Coming Up On The 11th of June 2016 tomorrow

Its here again and we can't wait to bring you update of this prestigious event happening live at Port Harcourt tomorrow.

The 2016 Africa Movie Academy Awards ceremony will be held on Saturday 11 June 2016 at a venue in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The ceremony will recognize and honor excellence among directors, actors, and writers in the film industry. The awards night will be hosted by Chris Attoh, Mike Ezuruonye and Kgopedi Lilokoe. It will air live on NTA to over 100 million viewers worldwide.

As part of the pre-AMAA activities, Rivers State Ministry of Culture and Tourism will collaborate with the Africa Film Academy to host a sponsorship night to mobilize corporate sponsors for the awards. Other media partners include Africa Magic, OHTV, SABC and ONTV.

The nominees for the 12th Africa Movie Academy Awards ceremony were announced on 15 May 2016. South African films Tell Me Sweet Something and Ayanda were tied for most nominations overall, with 9 nods each.Ghana had a total of 15 nominations with 5 films including The Cursed Ones, Rebecca, Cursed Treasure, Daggers of Life and The Peculiar Life of a Spider.

Little info about the AMAA awards

The Africa Movie Academy Awards, popularly known as AMAA and The AMA Awards, are presented annually to recognize excellence of professionals in the film industry. It was founded by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe and run through the Africa Film Academy. The awards are aimed at honouring and promoting excellence in the African movie industry as well as uniting the African continent through arts and culture.

The award presentation is attended by numerous media representatives, celebrities, politicians, journalists, actresses and actors from all across the world. The AMA awards are widely considered to be Africa's most important film event and the most prestigious film award in Africa.

The first Africa Movie Academy Awards were held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria on 30 May 2005. All other subsequent African Academy Awards were also held at the same venue, however for security reasons the venue for the 2008 AMAA Awards was moved to Abuja, Nigeria.
