Singer Denise Ho shocked after gig cancellation
The musician Denise Ho has told the BBC she was "shocked" that the cosmetics company Lancome decided to cancel a promotional gig involving her in Hong Kong.
She is a well known pro-democracy activist and her appearance at the concert had provoked an online backlash in China.
In a statement Lancome said Ms Ho was not a spokesperson of the company and that it was "sorry for the confusion", citing "possible safety reasons" in cancelling the concert.

Background info about Denise Ho
Ho was born in Hong Kong and received her education in Canada and Diocesan Girls' Junior School, Hong Kong. She emigrated with her family to Montreal, Quebec at the age of 11. She studied and graduated High School (Grade 7 to 11) at Collège Jean de la Mennais, then went on to Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf for a DEC in Arts and Communications. Her music career was launched in 1996, after she won the 15th New Talent Singing Awards. Her victory not only earned her a recording contract with Capital Artists Limited (華星唱片) but also a chance to become the only female apprentice of her childhood idol, Anita Mui. Her debut EP, first., came 5 years after her victory. During her 5-year wait, she went on tour with Anita Mui as a background singer and hosted various TV shows produced by TVB.
In 2014, Ho became a columnist for Apple Daily, and was also recognised for her activism for equal LGBT rights in Hong Kong. She has been a high-profile supporter of the 2014 Hong Kong protests, and a protester herself. On the subject, she stated, "I saw the students rushing in, then the tear gas... There was no option but to stand up. My favourite thing about Hong Kong is this moment in time – but it's also my least favorite. The most beautiful and the ugliest sides of Hong Kong are both happening right here. The Hong Kong spirit of helping each other out is something that was lost for a long time. But that's making a return. I don't like the greed, the selfishness, and the indifference some people feel towards what's happening in society."
