Denmark beats Nigeria U-23 team (6-2)
The Nigeria U-23 team, the Dream Team VI, were a sorry sight on Saturday as they were roundly beaten 6-2 by the Denmark U-21 team at the ongoing Suwon Invitational tournament in South Korea.
The Danes, just like Nigeria, lost their first game at the tournament but they turned on style on Saturday, scoring three goals each in the two halves before substitute Yusuf Abdulrahman helped the Dream Team VI reduce the deficit with his brace.
Nigeria did start the game well with Taiwo Awoniyi getting close to scoring in the early exchanges but that was all as the Danes settled in and started exploring the weakness in the team.
Erhun Obanor who was one of the most disappointing players for Nigeria on Saturday conceded an early penalty kick after handling the ball with his hand but goal keeper Emmanuel Daniel was able to stop the kick.
Obanor moments later handed the Danes the lead when he conceded an own goal and the Danes built on the lead, scoring two more goals in the first half through Emil Larsen who could pass for the tormentor-in-chief for the Nigeria defence.
The first half ended 3-0 .
Larsen continued from where he stopped in the first half, scoring another goal 10 minutes into the second half to make the scores 4-0.
Thereafter Patrick Da Silva and Emiliano Marcondes added to the goals for Demark before substitute Abdulrahman helped reduce the deficit with his brace.
With back-to-back defeats, Nigeria will be hoping to save face against Honduras in their last game even as the poor show in Suwon is a pointer that more work is still needed for Siasia and his crew if their dream of a good outing in the Rio Olympics is to be achieved.
